DEPOK – Universitas Indonesia together with KAGAMA (Keluarga alumni of Universitas Gadjah Mada) held a carnival and fashion show to commemorate and celebrate the Youth Pledge Day on October 28, 2022.
Musdaman, representative of KAGAMA UGM, said that through this event they wanted to showcase the ethnic and cultural diversity of the archipelago. “We are today opening a space for many people to express their culture,” Musdaman said.
Meanwhile, the carnival held at the UI Faculty of Cultural Sciences also included various other communities, such as the batik women’s community and people with disabilities, paguyuban students to the alzheimer’s community.
Dean of FIB Bondan Kanumoyoso was also present to open the parade. The carnival route starts from FIB-Faculty of Computer Science-Masjid Ukhuwah Islamiyah-Faculty of Law-Faculty of Psychology-Faculty of Social and Political Sciences and then returns to FIB.
In the series of activities, there were also traditional music performances and demonstrations of various traditional clothing of the archipelago.
One of the participants, Emmi Panjaitan from the Depok alzheimer community, welcomed this kind of activity. “Hopefully this event can continue to be held, because it is very useful and can introduce the culture of the archipelago,” said Emmi.
The same thing was also expressed by Maiorem Sadiki, a student of FIB who participated in the fashion show. “This carnival promotes and makes our culture more common and later if someone uses traditional clothes, it will not be strange anymore,” he explained. In addition to the traditional clothing of the archipelago, carnival participants also wore batik clothes from their respective regions.
